The Democratic candidate for Texas State Comptroller is Texas State Senator Sarah Eckhardt. Her website has full details on her vision for the Comptroller’s Office: Sen. The OAG serves as the state’s top law enforcement officer. The OAG’s responsibilities include defending the State of Texas and its laws by providing legal representation to the State, its officials, and agencies; serving the children of Texas through the enforcement of the state’s child support laws and the collection of child support; securing justice for Texans by investigating and prosecuting criminal activities; and more. The OAG has the power to hold politicians accountable for any wrongdoings and can promote justice and equality by advocating for policies that benefit Texas communities. A Democrat in this office will champion voting protections, reproductive rights, accessible health care, and more.
The Texas Department of Agriculture’s mission is to partner with all Texans to make Texas the nation's leader in agriculture, fortify our economy, empower rural communities, promote healthy lifestyles, and cultivate winning strategies for rural, suburban, and urban Texas through exceptional service and the common threads of agriculture in our daily lives. TDA is also the agency leading the charge against the New World screwworm outbreak. The agriculture commissioner oversees the agency and is elected every four years.
Flock cameras “use artificial intelligence to scan every vehicle that passes by, uploading the plate number, model, color and even bumper stickers to the country’s largest vehicle surveillance database. Law enforcement agencies that contract with the company — here and across the U.S. — can search the accumulated database with a few keystrokes and without a warrant.”
The Democratic candidate for Texas Land Commissioner is Benjamin Flores who, if he wins, would oversee the General Land Office which is Texas' oldest state agency. The TLC's main role is to oversee Texas' 13 million acres of public lands.
Newly released by the Heritage Foundation is a report that asserts that the promotion of competitive sports for girls and women “formed a core element of a broader project to remake female character itself — producing a new woman who would be more aggressive, assertive, dominant, and less deferential, less graceful, and less oriented toward motherhood and traditional feminine graces.” Reports like this show our progress in women’s rights is not set in stone. We must fight the battle every day.
The Texas Railroad Commission no longer regulates railroads but has the critical role of providing oversight of the Texas oil and gas industry and related industries like pipelines. Unfortunately, it has many issues, least of which is commissioners receiving 60% of their campaign funding from the industry they regulate.
Although a majority of Texans oppose construction of data centers in their communities, data centers, with Governor Abbott's full support, are taking advantage of Texas’ weak regulatory structure to vastly expand their plans. Call your reps to demand that data center construction ceases until more guidelines are put in place.
