The last day to register to vote is October 7. If you need to register to vote go to the Kendall County Elections Office on Fawn Valley. Texas does not allow same-day voter registration or online voter registration. Check the Kendall County Elections Office website for early and day of voting locations and times, and the Kendall County Democratic Party website for information about top-line and down-ballot races. And get out and VOTE!

Progressive Views: Texas Railroad Commission Needs Reform

The Railroad Commission issues permits for drilling, enforces industry regulations, works to prevent waste of natural resources, and plays a key role in environmental protection. Commissioners are elected and each make $140,000 per year and receive an estimated 60% of campaign funding from the industry they regulate. The Commission has taxpayers paying for plugging orphan wells and turns a blind eye to the flaring of natural gas that should be captured and sold. Reform in the Commission means voting for the Democratic candidates.

Gov. Greg Abbott is boasting that he now has the votes to pass his “school choice” voucher program during next year’s session of the Texas Legislature. He’s confident because during the recent primary he ran a successful “revenge campaign” against incumbents from his own party who helped defeat vouchers during the last legislative session. This, despite consistent polling that shows a majority of Texans do not support vouchers. Democratic legislators will be our only line of defense to defeat them once again.
